TOWN ON FIRE

In the Turkish period Banja Luka was a small town (Tur. Kasaba) situated near the border and was often destroyed in military actions, usually followed with devastating plague outbursts and fires. Such a fire took place at the time of the Great Turkish War (1683-1699) when the famous Austrian military leader Ludwig von Baden raided the town and burned most of it during his retreat.
